Sophia Rankin Band

Singer/Songwriter Sophia Rankin has been the recipient of multiple songwriting awards and has established herself as a local performer in her hometown of Tucson, Arizona. She released her first original album, Reverie, when she was a junior in high school, and released her second album SOLACE as a student at the University of Arizona, she is now a recent graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Integrated Studies. Her third album is currently in the works.
Rankin’s music style is an Americana-like blend of folk, rock, and pop. She sometimes performs with bluegrass guitarist Tom Carpenter, and she also performs with her band at events around Tucson. With a collaborative mix of genres and a strong foundation in folk roots, Rankin’s band provides a unique blend of folk-rock and alternative sounds to their original music.

Rankin began songwriting at a young age but only performed her original music upon entering high school. Her song “Goodbye” won first place at the Tucson Desert Songwriters Festival in 2017, and — along with her song, “Before I Get To One” — also secured her the first-place award at the Stefan George Songwriting Competition in 2018. She was featured on KXCI’s radio station as an emerging artist in folk and popular music, as well as The Daily Wildcat and Arizona Daily Star as an acclaimed Tucson artist and songwriter.

Rankin is practiced in guitar and piano playing as well as vocal performance. She is trained classically on piano and is self-taught on guitar. In her freshman year of high school, she was invited to perform at the Young Artists Stage at the Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association’s (TKMA) Annual Folk Festival — an event in which she has become a staple as a main performer and songwriter. Her performance at TKMA’s Annual Folk Festival launched her career into motion as she moved on to perform at charity, private, and public events around Tucson.

Rankin has performed at varying events such as Monsoon Music Festival, Meet Me At Maynard’s Walkathon, March of Dimes, Tucson Fire Fighters Chili Cook-Off, TKMA’s Annual Folk Festival, Fourth Avenue Street Fair, Virginia Cannon Presents, Women in Folk, and more. Since her entrance into the University of Arizona, she has also performed at Dusk Music Festival, Bear Down Music Festival, Spring Fling, Nova Bowl New Year’s Eve Block Party, Highland Rocks The Block, and has become a regular performer at UA Unplugged.
