October is treating Tucson music fans pretty well. This week brings everything from classic rock and funk to Americana, blues, songwriter showcases, and a Southern Arizona festival double-header. Here are a few highlights to help you start making plans, and remember, there’s always more waiting for you on the full Tucson Local Bands calendar.

Friday: Rock, Funk, and Desert Nights
Friday night has plenty of reasons to get out of the house. Swigfoot heads to Sky Bar with Spiders Can Fly, while Shell Shock brings classic rock to Big Bad Wolf. If dancing is more your speed, Taylor Tunes will be bringing funk, soul, and rock to Monterey Court.

- Billy Shaw Jr. Trio at Li’l Abner’s Steakhouse

Saturday: Americana, Blues, and Festival Vibes
Saturday stretches beyond Tucson with Gift Horse playing Copper Brothel Brewery in Sonoita, while back in town Barnaby and the Butcher bring their Alt Country and Americana sound to Corbett’s. You can also catch the big, brassy blues of The Coolers at Monterey Court.

- Cochise County All Stars at Rancho del Lago — private event

- Local Love presents The Battle Royale — First Round at The Rock

This isn’t our usual kind of Weekly Roundup shout-out, but we couldn’t resist this one. If you haven’t had the chance to see father-and-son drummers Andy and Zach Briefer of Gift Horse play together, you’re in for a treat. Kandra and Steve recently caught the two of them in action and watching how much fun these two have playing together is pretty darn contagious.
Sunday: Brunch, Blues, and Southern Arizona
Sunday starts early at Monterey Court with brunch music from Bill Martin & Friends, followed later by the monthly Irish Jam Session. Bryan Dean Trio will be at Ventana Canyon, and Cochise County All Stars have a Southern Arizona double-header with the Patagonia Fall Festival followed by Patagonia Lumber Company.
